“Inspiring others while being inspired”. This interview was more like a talk on philosophy than an entrepreneur interview.
谈话期间,石柱多次提到激励他人以及与他人交流的重要性,却很少谈及数字和商业模式。显然,正是这种激发灵感和与他人交流的热情,造就了Bon App!的成功。
As we talk, Stone frequently mentions inspiring and connecting people, rather than numbers and business models. It quickly becomes apparent that this passion for inspiration and connecting people makes Bon App! the success story it is.
创业之路
The Journey
“一开始只是因为创造出了对人们有价值的东西而感到纯粹的喜悦,然后你就会想要创造出一种具有可持续商业发展潜力的酷炫产品。“石柱发现他的许多国际友人看不懂现有美食App上的中文,因此他在2014年创建了Bon App!,向老外宣传上海的美食。
“It starts with the pure joy of creating something of value to people, then you want to create a cool product that can be a sustainable business”. Stone realised that many of his international friends couldn’t read Chinese on existing food apps, so he created Bon App! in 2014 to inform the English speaking community about Shanghai’s food world.
从此,它就从一个简单的餐厅列表应用程序逐渐发展成了一个涵盖了12座城市的社交应用程序。这些城市的人们可以通过这一美食媒介聚集在一起学习和交流想法。
Since then, it’s evolved from a simple restaurant listings app, to a social app covering 12 cities where people can come together to learn and exchange ideas through the medium of food.

How Does He Do It?

“People are rewarded for using Bon App! through a mix of gamification and social interaction”. From Power User free tastings, to creating lists, to winning badges, to listing interests and hobbies, users constantly find reasons to use the App and interact with each other.
用户互动十分火热,有些人一天最多要打开这个App六次!工具方面,该团队使用Trello和Teambition来管理任务,同时还使用GrowingIO来追踪数据。
User interaction is so strong that some people open the App up to 6 times a day! In terms of tools, the team uses Trello and Teambition to manage tasks and GrowingIO to track app data.

Meet!
“Shanghai is a long tail city. This city is great for experimenting with ideas.” Up to this point, Bon App! has organised and experimented with 500 events, with singles mixers and travel being most popular.
这款App的新功能Meet结合了用户兴趣爱好展示,使Bon App!自然而然地成为了一个自发聚会的平台。不论是创建共同兴趣小组、还是建立商务联系,甚至是想要去一个新地方,都可以在这个平台上对所有人实现。
But their new Meet feature, in conjunction with users listing interests, makes Bon App! a natural platform for self-organised meetups. Common interest groups, businesses, or even people who just want to try out a new place create events open to all.

“我有三座里程碑,第一座是在2014年的春天,我组建了我的第一支7人团队,第二座是2016年的秋天 Bon App!成为了App Store上的精选应用程序,还有第三座是我无意中听到人们在谈论Bon App!有多好用。”对于一个拥有700,000名注册用户的App,石柱认为成功并不取决于数字,而是用户的认可度。
“I have 3 milestones, one is when I hired my first 7-person team in spring 2014, two is when Bon App! was featured on the App Store in autumn 2016 and three is when I overheard people talking about how much they enjoy Bon App!”. For an App that has 700,000 registered users, Stone doesn’t count success in numbers, but rather through recognition.

His first 7 person team is an important mark to him because they formed the basis for his company culture. He’s understandably proud of being featured three times on the App Store, but he’s visibly most excited when he retells overhearing other people at the next table getting so much enjoyment out of Bon App!
与裸心社结缘
Why naked Hub?
石柱私底下是裸心社的元老Paul的好友。在Paul的邀请之下,他成为了位于复兴中路的中国第一家裸心社的主要租户之一。从那以后,Bon App!团队就成为了构建裸心社社区的一部分,他们还发现裸心社的许多地点都非常适合约见客户。他还对裸心社的可扩展弹性元素表示了赞赏。随着团队在亚洲地区的发展壮大,他们将使用更多裸心社的办公地点,对于这一点,石柱感到十分期待。
Stone is personal friends with Paul the 1st employee of naked Hub who asked him to be one of the anchor tenants at the first naked Hub, at Fuxing Zhong Lu. Since then, the Bon App! team has been integral to building the naked Hub community, and finds the numerous locations useful for scheduling meetings with clients. Stone also praises the scalable and flexible elements of naked Hub, and is excited about accessing many of the hubs as his team grows in Asia.
GenNow is a new media platform focused on everything startup related. Analysing the sharing economy, speaking to industry insiders, interviewing notable entrepreneurs and examining tech trends.
